Be Artistic

Be Artistic
May 02, 2017

Spring has sprung, friends—and we couldn’t be happier about it! We don’t know about you, but we always feel so much more creative during the springtime (maybe it’s all the fresh air and flowers in full bloom)—which is why we thought it was a perfect time to focus on creativity and the arts. Today’s quote comes from the one and only Maya Angelou and it’s centered around May’s theme: Be Artistic.

When searching for quote on being artistic, we came across so many great options to choose from, but Angelou’s words stopped us in my tracks. Her quote was so different from the others we read, as it positions creativity as something we often forget it is: endless.

People who aren’t creative tend to avoid flexing their creative muscles because, well, they don’t think they’re creative. While most of us event pros typically don’t have this problem, we do tend to suffer from the creative burnout that happens after an hour-long linen-selection meeting or a season of nothing but design, design, design.

We love Angelou’s words, then, because they remind us that—contrary to popular belief—when we flex our creative muscles, we’re not wearing them out, but, rather, building them up. We don’t use up our creativity by being artistic all of the time, we create space for even more of it. Our supply of great ideas and one-of-a-kind design details isn’t really a supply at all—because it’s infinite (though, admittedly, it may not always feel that way).

Especially right now as we’re in the heart of wedding season, we encourage you to remind yourself to flex those creative muscles daily without fear of judgment or burnout—and to stop worrying about draining that non-existent idea pool that we all fool ourselves into believing exists. Rather than looking at creativity as using up something, think of it as adding to something.

Cheers, Aisle Planners, to being artistic!
