Let’s talk about an epidemic that we’re all plagued by: wedding-planner burnout. It’s a serious problem. We do, after all, take on about 1,498 roles every single day—give or take. As business owners, creative entrepreneurs, bookkeepers, therapists, designers, writers, social-media experts, office managers, peacekeepers, heads-of-households and more, it’s not hard to see why our passion flame tends to...dwindle to a small spark after years in the business. After all, event-planning can be beyond exhausting. Today, then, we wanted to wanted to help you combat wedding-planner burnout by sharing five simple exercises you can perform every day to help keep that passion flowing.
Keep a Daily Log of Gratitude
Take two minutes every single morning to write down three things you’re grateful for in a journal or notebook. That’s it. It’s such a simple (and easy) thing to do that can really help us start the day off on the right foot. By reminding ourselves what it is we have to be thankful for, we’re able to put the rest of the day’s guaranteed stresses in perspective.
Practice Art in a Small Way Each Day
Whether you enjoy sketching or painting or writing or even just snapping iPhone photos, practice a non-work related art form every single day for just a few minutes. This can mean jotting down a few lines of poetry or sketching that bouquet that sits on your desk or even just snapping a well-framed photo of the dog that lies by your feet. Collect these daily art forms in a singular space—sketches in a single journal, photos all together in an iPhoto album, etc.—so that, every now and then, you can scroll through the collection of work you’ve created and see how you’ve changed, grown or altered your style over time.
Seek to Learn One New Thing Every Day
One of our all-time favorite quotes from super scientist Bill Nye reads, “Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don’t.” Think about that for a second. It’s undoubtedly true, yet so often we go through life avoiding eye contact and communication with others. Challenge yourself, then, to spend a month learning one new thing every single day. Hold yourself accountable by reiterating the “new thing” you learned every night before bed.
Start your Morning with a Heart-Opening Stretch
Heart-openers are a great way to start the day. By shining our heart to the sky and cracking our chest wide-open, we open ourselves—literally and figuratively—for the day. Bow Pose, Camel Pose, Wheel Pose and Upward-Facing Dog are all great yoga poses for starting your day off on an open foot, and allowing passion and creativity to flow through you for the rest of the day. You can always come back to these poses as you start to feel tired or like you’re going to crash throughout the day, as well. Nothing gets the blood (and passion) pumping like getting out of that office chair and stretching our hard-worked body.
Set a “Fun” Goal Every Single Day
We often talk about goal-setting at Aisle Planner, as it’s such an important part of progressing as a business owner. But today we wanted to give you a bit of a break and offer up a less serious take on goal-setting. Before you start your day (after you’ve written in your journal and done your heart-opening yoga pose, obviously), write down a small “fun” goal for the day. Think of how you’d like to treat yourself that day and then follow through on it. You can write down anything that you know will make you happy and that you know you’ll actually have time to accomplish, such as: “Buy a lavender latte,” “Go for a five-minute walk,” “Treat yourself to 10 minutes of online shopping,” “Put on a Beyoncé song and dance.” Literally, this can be anything in the world that’s within reach and that will put a smile on your face.
